Watch: The Player Funnel: Rounds That Narrow the Field (4:40) · All videos
What it does
The Player funnel is a list of who is still in the running. It ranks teams, and players who are on no team, by score, like the scoreboard. You keep the top scorers in, take others out, and put anyone back with one click. A game can then be set to use the funnel, so only the players still in it take part and everyone else sees Please wait on their phone.
Tip The funnel never changes anyone's score. It only decides who can play.
Add a Player funnel step
In the Rundown, press Add and choose Player funnel. Choose who goes in: everyone, a number of slots (the top 8, say), or the top percent. The slots are taken from the scores at the moment the step starts, so put it after the round whose scores should decide. Choose whether the TV shows each score, or only who is still in.
- Open the Rundown tab and press Add.
- Choose Player funnel from the menu.
- Under Player slots, choose Everyone, The top players or teams, or The top percent, and the number.
- Under On the TV, choose whether to show the scores.
Tip Anyone tied with the last slot stays in, so a tie can run the funnel a little over. Players who join after the funnel is set start out when it was cut to a number of slots, and in when it took everyone.
Run it from the Live tab
The Live tab has two tabs: In Funnel lists everyone still in, and Eliminated lists everyone who is out. One click takes a player or team out, or puts them back in. Take Top X Scores opens a window where you keep the top number, or the top percent, by the scores as they are now. Funnel Reset puts everyone who was taken out back in. The usual buttons are there too: put it on the TV, and restart.
- Open the Live tab and choose the Player funnel.
- Press Take out beside a player, or Put back in on the Eliminated tab.
- Press Take Top X Scores, choose the top number or the top percent, and press Take them.
- Press Funnel Reset to bring everyone back.
Tip Taking the top scores starts again from everyone, so players you took out by hand can come back in if their score earns it. The Host Remote has the same buttons.
Let only the funnel play a game
Every game that players take part in has a Use Player Funnel setting, in the step's Player limiter in the Rundown and as a switch at the top of the game on the Live tab. Set it to Yes and only the players still in the funnel can play that step. The others see Please wait on their phones, their taps do not count, and the game does not wait for them to answer. It lasts for that step only: the next step lets everyone play again unless it asks for the funnel too.
- Open the game's step in the Rundown and press Edit under Look, sound and notes.
- Under Player limiter, set Use Player Funnel to Yes.
- Or, while the game is on, switch Use Player Funnel on at the top of its Live panel.
Tip Chat, scores and the team picker have no such setting, because players do not take part in them.
A show of several rounds
Play a first round with everyone. Add a Player funnel step that keeps the top 8, and a second round set to Use Player Funnel. After it, another funnel step keeps the top 3 for the final, and a last round set to Use Player Funnel decides the winners. Every round is smaller, and the players who are out can still watch the TV.
